If you´re like me and are someone who loves Fall and Halloween, but hates scary movies and still wants to get into the spirit for spooky season, this list of 15 of the best non-scary halloween movies to watch is for you!

  1. The Nightmare before Christmas

    Nightmare before Christmas

This is one of my favorite movies to watch during Halloween and one I re-watch every year! It´s a stop motion musical by Tim Burton and follows a skeleton named Jack Skellington who lives in "Halloweentown" and discovers "Christmas Town", which leads to him trying to take over Christmas.

    Scary level: 4/10.

Although the storyline isn´t scary, some of the characters definitely can be!

  2. Practical Magic

    practical magic

A classic everyone probably has on their Autumn movie watch-list!

It´s about two witch sisters who are bound by a curse to never find (or keep) true love. They accidentally commit a crime and try to use their powers to reverse it.

    Scary level: 3.5/10

There are some jump scares and short, slightly scary scenes, but nothing overly spooky.

  3. Harry Potter and the Philosopher´s Stone

    Harry Potter

The ultimate cozy movie to watch during Autumn (in my opinion)!

There´s just so much magic & nostalgia in all of the Harry Potter movies, especially the first one and definitely a must-watch during the spooky season!

    Scary level: 2,5/10

There are some slightly scary scenes, but other than that, it´s just ultimate coziness all the way ^^

  4. E.T.

    E.T.

Another cozy, heartwarming, but supernatural movie!

It follows a friendly alien, stranded on earth and a ten year old boy who finds him. Together, they try to get him back to his home planet!

    Scary level: 3,5/10

  5. Alice in Wonderland (2010 live-action version)

    Alice in Wonderland

Though this one isn´t necessarily known to be a halloween movie, the magic, slight eariness and creatures definitely make it a good movie to watch during the spooky season, I believe!

    Scary level: 5/10

  6. Coco

    Coco

Disney´s Coco is a heartwarming movie about a boy named Miguel who is accidentally transported to the Land of the Dead, where he seeks the help of his deceased musician great-great-grandfather to return him to his family and reverse his family's ban on music.

    Scary level: 1/10 (not scary)

  7. Coraline

    Coraline

This one is definitely more on the scarier side as there are a couple of scenes that might follow you in your dreams after watching, but if you are able to handle a little bit of scariness, it´s definitely worth watching.

This movie follows a girl named Coraline, who moves into a small town with her family and discovers a secret door in their new house, which leads to a world designed to be the perfect version of her own. The only difference being that the people living in it have button eyes...

    Scary level: 6/10

Some scary scenes, but nothing gory.

  8. Matilda

    Matilda

Heartwarming and nostalgic! Matilda is a little girl who discovers that she possesses a special power: she can move things with her mind. She then uses her gift to take revenge on her abusive parents and fight back against the evil principal of her school.

    Scary level: 1/10 (not scary)

  9. Corpse Bride

    Corpse Bride

Another Tim Burton classic! Corpse Bride is a stop motion musical. When a shy groom practices his wedding vows near the tombstone of a deceased young woman, she rises from the grave assuming he had just married her.

    Scary level: 3/10

    Some slightly scary scenes.

  10. The Lake House

    the lake house

This is a cozy, ever so slightly supernatural fall movie, perfect for if you are looking for a cozy lovestory for october! The movie follows a lonely doctor who once lived in a lakeside home and falls in love with its latest resident via letters. After finding out that they are living two years apart, they try unraveling the mystery behind their love story...

    Scary level: 1/10 (not scary)

  11. Brave

    brave

One of my favorite princess movies ever! The music, the setting, the characters! It´s such a heartwarming, cozy and magical animation movie by Disney and a must-watch this autumn (in my opinion).

    Scary level: 2/10

In case you want to watch with kids, some of the scenes could be seen as a little bit scary.

  12. Frankenweenie

    Frankenweenie

This ties together with Corpse Bride and The Nightmare Before Christmas, as it´s another Tim Burton classic! The stop motion film follows a boy named Victor Frankenstein who uses electricity to resurrect his dead dog, Sparky, but others discover what he has done and bring their own deceased pets and other creatures back to life too, resulting in chaos.

    Scary level: 2,5/10

Some ever so slightly scary scenes.

  13. Fantastic Beasts and where to find them

    Fantastic Beasts

Magic, whimsical creatures, the Harry Potter world,... Another amazing movie to watch if you are looking for a magical, cozy, not very scary movie this Halloween!

    Scary level: 3/10

  14. the Chronicles of Narnia

    Narnia

This one feels very nostalgic to me, as it is one of the movies on this list, next to Harry Potter, which I loved growing up! It´s about four siblings living during WW2, who are sent to a country house to keep them safe. One day, one of the siblings named Lucy finds a wardrobe that leads to a magical world called Narnia. There, the siblings join the lion "Aslan" in the fight against an evil white witch.

    Scary level: 4,5/10

    Slightly scary fighting scenes.

  15. The Addams Family (1991)

    Addams Family

This movie is probably on everyone´s Halloween watch-list as it is such a classic!

    Scary level: 5/10

There are some scary scenes, but nothing too spooky!

Thank you for reading! I´d love to know if there are any movies you would add to the list! x
