In this blog post, I will be giving you my guide on How to have a Cottagecore Spring no matter where you live. Weither you live in a cozy english cottage like the one from The Holiday (who else watches that movie every year on Christmas-time?), or in a little city-apartment.
Grab yourself a warm cup of coffee, or your favorite Spring-time tea and let´s dive in!
1: Visit a garden centre
This is one of my favorite activities to do in general, but especially during the start of spring! Something about visiting a garden centre in spring time just feels so magical and it´s the perfect way to be able to see some beautiful blooms, even if they haven´t yet fully arrived out in nature!
I have created a Pinterest board with some Cottage Garden Ideas for small spaces where you can find some inspo for making your own little Spring Cottage Garden, even if all the space you have is a windowsill! I saw a picture of vintage mugs that were used as indoor planters and it was the cutest thing ever and something which I´ll no doubt be recreating for our kitchen window this season. You´ll find some pictures of mug-planters on my Pinterest board aswell.
I would definitely recommend visiting a garden centre during spring-time, especially if there aren´t yet any flowers outside where you live! That way you´ll be getting all the spring-time feels, even if you´re not planning on planting a garden.
2: Read Books that are set in Spring
Preferably outside on a blanket with a picnic-basket filled with your favorite snacks ^^
Reading a book outside or nearby an open window on a sunny day is such a great way to get that magical spring-feeling!
One of my favorite books to read during spring is "The Secret Garden".
Whenever I read it, it always inspires me to look at the wonders this season brings more closely and notice the magic that is found in the "little" things, like a daffodil on the side of the road, or the blossoms on our apple tree outside...
3: Watch a Show or Movie that is set in Spring
Here are some of my favorite shows to watch for spring to romanticize this season:
Anne with an E The series based on the novel "Anne of Greengables". One of the most Cottagecore feel-good series for spring, in my opinion.
Bridgerton (of course) The dresses, the balls, the outfits! Bridgerton plays in the 1800s and it almost seems like it´s based in eternal spring, which makes it a must-watch for spring in my opinion. I´m so excited for the next season to come out soon!
The Great Brittish Bake Off This is the show my grandma and I watched a lot of together when I last visited her in the US and we both loved it (and still do). It´s such a cozy cottagecore show to watch during spring-time.
Some of my favorite movies to watch for spring:
La La Land One of my absolute favorite movies no matter the season, but especially during spring! The soundtrack, the dances, the outfits and the romance! If you haven´t yet seen La La Land, definitely give it a watch!
The Notebook I´ve probably seen this movie at least 20 times and it´s another one of my absolute favorites. The love story between Allie and Noah is just so beautiful.
Spirited Away Any Studio Ghibli movie will get you into the mood for spring, but Spirited Away is one of my favorites. The beautiful scenery, unique characters and magic in this movie make it a must-watch for spring.
Pride and Prejudice (2005) What´s spring without Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennett?
The Sound of Music (1965) As an Austrian myself, I couldn´t not share this movie on my list of spring-time movies too! The Sound of music is well-loved for a reason. With it´s beautiful mountain-scenery, songs and lovestory... This movie always puts me in the mood for spring ^^
4: Make a jar of dandelion-jam
It might sound a bit strange if you´ve never heard of dandelion-jam before, but it is delicious, so fun and easy to make and probably one of the most cottagecore Spring-time activities to do!
Here´s the recipe I use:
Ingredients
50 grams (about one and a half ounces) of Dandelion petals
Lemonjuice (from 1 lemon)
about 400 grams (13 ounces) of jam-sugar
1/2 liter (2 cups) of apple juice
Instructions:
First, start by pulling the petals off the dandelion flowers you´ve picked and wash them thorougly with cold water. A tip for making sure there are no bugs on the flowers: Spread them out on a white cloth for a couple of hours outside. That way, most of the bugs go away.
Add the apple juice and half of the dandelion petals into a pan and let it simmer for about 3 minutes. Turn off the stove and let it infuse overnight. Make sure to cover the pan with a lid. The next day, remove the dandelion petals by pouring the liquid through a sieve. Throw away the petals and put the juice back into the pan along with the lemon juice. Let it simmer for 1-2 minutes and add the sugar. Stir until the sugar is dissolved. Take the remaining dandelion petals, put them into the liquid, turn up the heat and let it boil for about 7-8 minutes. Turn off the stove and pour the jam into warm, clean jars and seal them shut.
This is such a great treat to take with you when invited for lunch, or on a picnic! It tastes really good on bread like baguette, or even in oatmeal for breakfast!
5: Put on a dress with a cardigan
Usually it´s not quite warm enough to wear just a dress during spring, so throwing on a cardigan makes it so much more cozy, and warm enough most days.
I currently love the dresses from Sondeflor! They are a sustainable clothing brand and I love their cottagecore/vintage inspires designs!
Another very cottagecore clothing brand I love is Breath of Youth. I love the cozy, soft girly vibe of their online shop itself and their clothes make me feel like I want to go frolick in a field somewhere, or read a book outside underneath a tree! ^^
Wearing a long, flowy dress makes spring feel so much more romantic and cottagecore, even when living in the city!
I hope you enjoyed this list of how to have a cottagecore spring and make the most of this magical season, no matter where you live!
Sending lots of love and whimsy your way.
I love this post! So many great tips!
