How To Romanticize Autumn

The arrival of Autumn also means shorter, colder days, more time spent inside and an overall feeling of change. For those of us who thrive during summer, that change can give us a sense of dread for the darker, colder days to come. In this blogpost I am going to give you some essential tips on how to enjoy and romanticize Autumn, so you can start feeling excited for the approaching season without that sense of dread!

Grab yourself a warm cup of coffee or tea, cozy up and let´s begin!

  1. Create a Fall moodboard!

Creating an Autumn / Fall moodboard is such a great way to romanticize this season and really helps with noticing the beauty this time of year has to offer!

Pinterest is the perfect place for creating moodboards! Just go to Pinterest, search for "Autumn / Fall inspo", "Autumn / Fall core", or "Autumn / Fall aesthetic" for example and save anything that speaks to you onto your moodboard! That way you can always revisit it whenever you feel that dread creeping up, or whenever you just want to feel excited for Autumn!

Here´s an example from my Autumn moodboard for some inspo:

2. Create an Autumn / Fall playlist!

Having certain songs that remind you of Autumn can really help romanticize this season and create a feeling of nostalgia whenever you listen to your Fall playlist every year!

If you need some inspo, here is the autumn playlist I love, which you can listen to whenever you want to feel excited and inspired for the cozy season!: Fall Playlist on Spotify

3. Make an Autumn Movie & Show watch list!

I loooove watching cozy shows and movies during Fall! They make this season feel so much more special!

Here is a list I made of a couple of must-watch movies and series for Autumn:

Movies:

  1. Harry Potter

A Harry Potter marathon during Fall while sipping on a Pumpkin Spiced Latte is a must! ^^

  2. Age of Adaline

In this must-watch movie, Adaline (Blake Lively), a woman born in 1908 gets struck by lightning in 1937 which leaves her unable to age. This movie is full of romance, beautiful outfits and is set in Fall. I have seen it twice and will probably watch it again because it is sooo good!

  3. Autumn in New York

I loved this one mostly for the Fall-vibes. It is a romantic drama, though I personally didn´t like the romance between the two main characters too much, I do still think it is a good movie.

  4. The Notebook

My favorite movie of all time and although it´s mostly set in summer, the outfits, the overall vibe and the romance make it perfect to watch during Autumn aswell ^^

  5. Good Will Hunting

This movie follows 20 year old janitor "Will Hunting",

whose mathematical genius is discovered by a prefessor at MIT.

It is set in fall and feels soo cozy and heartwarming to watch!

There are many more good autumnal movies, but these are some of my favorites!

Shows:

  • Gilmore Girls

    (of course ^^)

  • FRIENDS

One of my favorite comfort shows and perfect for Fall!

  • Gossip Girl

The outfits, the set, the drama! If you´ve never watched Gossip Girl, definitely give it a try this season! You won´t regret it ^^

  • Wednesday

    For the witchy vibes

  • Sherlock

In this incredible show, Sherlock Holmes, a private detective and his assistant John Watson live in 21st century London and solve crimes together. Sherlock notices things others don´t and is just a fun and interesting character to observe! If there is one show you need to watch this season, next to Gilmore Girls, it would be this one! ^^

4. Decorate your Home for Autumn!

One of my favorite ways to romanticize the change of seasons is by decorating my home!

If you don´t want to spend a ton of money buying decorations, you can turn to nature for inspiration by foraging pine cones, pumpkins, fall leaves, or acorns and scatter them around the house!

A great way to preserve fall leaves is by coating them in mod-podge, a sort of craft-glue! That way you can re-use the fall-leaves you collect without them drying out!

I love doing this with beautiful leaves I find every year!

Here´s a How To on preserving Autumn-leaves for decoration by The Stone & The Oak: How To preserve Autumn Leaves?

Other than using what nature provides for home-decor, some other ways to decorate your home for Fall are:

  1. Throw blankets and pillows in Autumnal colors

  2. Little baskets filled with pumpkins, fall-leaves or fake candles

  3. Candles

  4. Fairy Lights strung around the house

  5. Autumnal books i.e on the coffee table

  6. Fall leaf garlands on door frames

  7. Creating a Fall-themed "Christmas-Tree"

  8. Pumpkins

  9. Autumnal Mugs wherever you want them displayed

  10. Fall-themed bouquets and wreaths

There are so many ways to decorate your home for Fall and it is such a great way to romanticize this season!

You can make it a yearly tradition to decorate for autumn on a set day and make it special by playing autumnal music, preparing a fall-themed drink, or baking some pumpkin spiced cookies and involving family or friends while you transform your home into your cozy heaven for the colder months to come!

5. Autumnal Outdoor Activities

Besides all the cozy indoor things, there are also so many outdoor activities you can do during autumn!

Here are some autumnal outdoor activity ideas for romanticizing Fall to the fullest:

  1. Visiting a Pumpkin Patch!

  2. Going to a local Coffee Shop & ordering an autumnal drink

  3. Going to a park and sitting down with an autumnal book

  4. Waking up earlier, putting on a cozy sweater and watching the sun rise

  5. Collecting Fall-leaves, pine cones and acorns as decor

  6. Going to an outdoor movie theatre with a cozy blanket, popcorn and a hot drink

  7. Visiting a local bookshop and choosing some new books to read during the colder seasons!
