How to romanticize winter & ease seasonal depression

The cold, short days with little to no light can make so many of us dread the arrival of winter, which is why in this blog post, I will give you my tips on how to romanticize winter & ease seasonal depression. Instead of dreading the coming season, you might find some inspiration and start feeling excited, or at the very least neutral, for winter to come!

So, grab yourself a warm cup of coffee or tea, get your favorite cozy blanket and let's begin!

1. Plan winter activities outside!

Here are some examples of outdoor activities to romanticize winter for your winter bucket-list:

• Go on a ski trip, or hike!

• Go ice skating!

• Make a campfire and roast marshmallows over the fire (I´m already looking for campfire equipment for our yard this winter😍!)

• Go to a Christmas market 🎄

• Have a picnic in the snow (if there's snow where you live). This is something my partner and I would do often back when we still lived in Austria and it is so much fun!

• Bundle up in a coat, bring some tea and go on a neighborhood walk

2. Collect winter foliage to decorate your home with

I especially love collecting holly, or evergreen branches to decorate with. Bringing little reflections of the season inside is such a lovely way to romanticize winter.

3. Get a new, cozy book to read

One of my favorite ways to romanticize the cozy season and ease seasonal depression is to visit a bookstore and pick out a new book to  read, prefferably one set in winter with smalltown Christmas vibes!

Here are some of my cozy book-recommendations to read during the colder months:

• A Cat Cafe Christmas by Codi Gary

• The Christmas Tree Farm by Laurie Gilmore

• The Bookshop on the corner by Jenny Colgan

Legends & Lattes by Travis Baldree

4. Get a new Christmas / winter themed mug

There's something about cute mugs that always makes me happy ^^

If you love mugs like I do, making it a little tradition to pick out a new winter mug every year can help so much in making this season feel special! Here are some mugs I have been eyeing this year:

5. Do DIYs at home

I recently bought a little book-nook diy set which I'm super excited to build this winter! You could also try sewing your own clothes, take on knitting, or make your own Christmas tree ornaments! There are so many DIYs you could try! Pinterest is great for looking for ideas!

6. Find your own signature seasonal recipe

This could range from dinners, to cakes, or drinks! Having a seasonal recipe you make every year creates so much nostalgia around this season and is another great way to romanticize winter!

7. Write cards to friends and loved ones!

Writing cards feels so nostalgic and I don't know anyone who wouldn't be happy about receiving one. Next to it being fun, it's also such a thoughtful gift!

8. Movie nights at home

There are so many heart-warming winter movies to romanticize the season! Here are some of the ones I love to watch:

• The Holiday

• It´s a Wonderful Life

• The Christmas Chronicles

• Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

• Klaus

• The Harry Potter movies

• Hallmark Christmas movies

• The Polar Express

• Love Actually

• Anastasia

• Frozen

• Beauty and the Beast

These were just a couple of my favorites, but there are sooo many more out there!

Thank you so much for reading! I hope you got some inspiration to start romanticizing your winter and wish you the coziest coming months x

Sending lots of love and coziness your way 🎄
